The inspirational #1 Bestseller by John P. Strelecky. Now translated into thirty-five languages and read by more than a million readers worldwide. In a small cafe at a location so remote it sits in the middle of the middle of nowhere, John--a man in a hurry--is at a crossroads. Intent only on refueling before moving along on his road trip, he finds sustenance of an entirely different kind. In addition to the specials of the day, the cafe menu lists three questions all diners are encourage to consider.

Why are you here?

Do you fear death?

Are you fulfilled.

With this food for thought and the guidance of three people he meets at the cafe, John embarks on a journey of self-discovery that takes him from the executive suites of the advertising world to the surf of Hawaii's coastline. Along the way he discovers a new way to look at life, himself, and just how much you can learn from a green sea turtle.

I have mixed feelings about this book. It was a quick, easy read (almost too easy). I absolutely hated the writing style--simplistic and often awkward word choices, combined with contrived dialogue, made reading this book kind of like listening to fingernails scratching on a chalkboard.

That said, the book does raise some important questions, especially for people like me who are at a fork in the road of life, on the verge of making some big life changes.

1. Why am you here? (What is your Purpose for Existing?)
2. Do you fear death?
3. Are you fulfilled?

I would actually give this book 2 1/2 stars, as the questions it raises are good ones to consider, despite the fact that their delivery left me unimpressed.

Readers who like this book, will probably want to check out The Big Five For Life, which further develops the ideas here.

Its a quick read & a good message. Do what you really enjoy in life before it's too late.
While the "advice" is similar to that you may have received from a variety of sources; this is a refreshing story that ends up not being too "preachy".
Read this book in 4 hours in Sedona AZ. Funny, inspiring and thought provoking. Bought a copy for my son! Loved it!
At 122 pages (with a lot of them blank) and big print to boot, it's almost a children's book and maybe that's part of it's charm.
The idea is for you to answer the questions on your own terms to find out what you think your purpose for existing is, which is probably something we should ponder more than once, or twice in a lifetime.
So, maybe keep it handy to your bedside and occasionally read yourself a bedtime story to sleep on.

Goodnight...sweet dreams.
I bought this book because it was recommended by Lee-Yee, a highly respected Chinese radio commentator/editor in Hong Kong. In one of his weekly podcasts, Lee described the basic ideas behind this book. I was hoping that I could learn more by reading the book.

If you have heard about the basic ideas of this book from a secondary source (e.g., book reviews), chances are there is not much more you can learn by actually reading the book. Suggestions such as making sure you like what you are doing during your waking hours (your jobs), pursuing your interests and passion now instead of after retirement, living the lives that you want instead of what others want, answering the question yourselves about your own purpose for existing (PFE).... are some life principles that we all ALREADY know. If reading this book does suddenly change your life, it is probably because you are ready to change anyway. This book may simply reaffirm you of what you already set out to do. If you become a more fulfilling person after reading this book, it is essentially a self-fulfilling prophecy unfolding.

If there is one insight that I concur is "new," it is the author's theory about why many people who are enthusiastic about their goals normally have the "luck" to receive more help from other people. The theory is simple enthusiastic people are more likely to talk with other people about what they want, and their enthusiasm more likely to receive support from those people who hear their stories. Aren't we all emotionally affected by people we know who are passionate about their goals?

Good luck with your soul-searching.
A great journey into what you SHOULD be thinking about, and how you should properly view the insanity of our rat race.
Great read for those who enjoy philosophy. Makes you want to start a cafe-restaurant of the type. Enjoyed it very much and wanted to get the squeal, but was not available; bummer.
